Final 1

The Earth is the thrid planet form our sun. Our solar system is on one of the outer arms of the milky way, our galaxy. These are in comparisoin tiny objects in comparison to the univers. Which is around 14 billion light years across. In comparison the milky way is only 12 million light years across. The soloar system is 1 light hour across and the Earth, the Earth is not even a light second across.
The Universe is around 14 billion years old. The theroy that most scientist agree with is that the universe started off with a bang. This is called the big bang and it is what got everything going. Before the big bang, nothing exsited, or so many scientist think. The universe is moving at a speed that acording to physics is imposible. The universe is expanding at a speed that is greater than that of light, which is supposed to be impossible. When the big bang happend all of the matter that now exsicts was created. Giving the building blocks of the universe a place to go.

Stars are the building blocks of all elements. When stars create heat they use nuccler fusion, slaming other elements together to create newer elements. As the stars get older they start fussing heaveir and heavier elements together. When these larger elements hit iron they process ends. If the star is large enough the start will go into a supernova. When this happens more elements are created from the heat of the explosion. This is how we get the natural elements found on earth.

The Sun

The sun is a large ball of gas, that has a hot plasmaic core of mostly hydrogen. This ball of swirling gas does things that most people don't think is possible. This are things like storms, launching bits of it's self, and the most supprising it actually changes color. These are known as solor flares, solor wind, and sunspots.

Solar flares are bits of the sun that are launched into space. These are large explosions that occur near sunspots. They are very hot, millions of degrees farhenheight, and have a charge to them. These flares are aranged in a system of how large they are, and how powerfull they are. The largest is the X-class flares, they are followed by the M-class with a tenth of the energy as the x, Then there is the C-class they have a tenth of the energy that the M-class has. Solar flares are only seen via x-ray's. However you can see proof that they do exsit. In fact you don't need much equipment, just go to a computer, or listen to new reports and wait for a solor flare to pop up. Then go out side (or hop on your favorite search engine and type in northern lights) and look for the northern lights.

Solar wind is a area of charged particles in the upper atmosphere of the sun and usually consits of protons and electrons. These particles have a voltage of around 1.5 to 10 KeV. These highlly charged particles can escape the suns gravity because of there high temperture and there high kentic energy. These particles also create a larger bubble around the solar system, this is called the Heliosphere.

Sunspots are areas of the sun that have turned darker than the surrounding area. These large areas some are over 50,000 miles in diameter move around the sun. As they do they expand and contract. Sunspots are caused by areas of intense magnetic charges. These things are cooler than the surrounding sun.

When these thigns move away form the sun towards Earth, weird stuff can happen. They can cause electronics to become disfuctionanall. When high beams of radition hit satilites they can fry the circuts instatlly. When power grids are hit things like the 2005 east coast blackout occur

Climate

My climate topic is on sandstorms. A sandstorm is a type of storm that occurs when strong prolonged winds pick up loose top soil and moves it, sometimes distances of 100's of miles. when this occurs the visibility of the area is quickly brought down to feet and inches.

Sandstorms happen when the area has had very little precipitation and has very strong winds. In the area of North Africa there is a sandstorm that is called the Simoon and this storm can make dust travel all the way to Europe. In the Sudan another type of sandstorm is called the Habaab.

Sandstorm's can be tracked and conditions can be monitored via a satellite. This was proved in 2002 in china when scientist there predicted the countries largest storm in a decade 3 days before it happened.

Sandstorms can cause large amounts of damage. Because it is small particles moving at fairly high velocities these particles can strip paint. Also because of there size these particles will find there way into any and all crevices, meaning that car engines and electronics can seize up and crash.

River and lake blog

What i learned from the river was that it was pretty healthy. When we compared our q-values we saw that on the most part the health of the river system was good. Our Q-value at the start was 13.02 and our finale Q-value is 9.3. Personally i thought that this was going to be a low number, because i thought that the river was unhealthy.  Our project can lower down the amount of Co2 in the air and the water.
The biggest lake in volume is supperior, while the smallest Erie is the smallest. The most urban lake is Michigan and the least is Superior. The lake with the longest shore is Huron. We can best manage the ecosytems by regulating types of cheicals and other man made materials into the lakes. Two pollutans that pretain to our action project is Co2 and coal smoke from power plants.
   Prelim Questions.
   1. The water goes down the drain.
   2. Runoff is water that does not get abosorbed in the ground. It goes down hills and in urban enviroments  into drains.
   3. It can, I think that it should because it can carry chemicals in it.
4.Sources of pollutants are human houses.
5.Point is from one source, while non-point is from a bunch that have the same amount of pollutants added.
   6. A watershed is the water under the ground that is stored.

Nature Walk

The nature walk was fun. I personaly learnt that i can't touch the one grapes looking things. My kid learnt about the outdoors and looked at the difrent types of trees. He was also excited about looking at the grasshopers.
The water progect connects with our Wind Turbine progect because the heat reflected off of the water can create stronger winds, by warming up the air.
Im part of the wind turbine group.
Our group is waiting for the turbine to arive.
I am to do most of the work and to come up with stuff for questions like this.

Second Posting

http://myfootprint.org
This site is good for me because it is very easy to use. I think that this would be a good site for younger children because it is very easy to use and shows you how many earths would be used.
My footprint is 136.6 tons of carbon.
Three ways i can reduce my carbon footprint is to take a shorter shower. I can also ride the buss or walk more instead of getting rides all the time. I could also look into buying more organically made clothing.
Three ways to reduce the schools carbon footprint is by asking that more environmentally sufficent lighting be used. I could ask that the school to use organic food for lunch. Finally i could also ask that the school set up a budget for renewable energy resources, like solar panels.
This connects to my project because mine is the one that is involved with the wind-turbine. This connects because the school is investing in renewable energy and that is one of my ideas for how to lower the schools carbon footprint. I feel like that we should take care of the world and use the amount of resources available to make sure that the world is secured and sustainable for future generations.
